A trail designed for trail running
Head for La Roche Chalais and more specifically Saint-Michel L’Écluse and Léparon to discover your new playground!
Inaugurated at the start of the 2025 school year, it is the 7th Trail station in the département! There’s a choice of 5 trails starting from the Maison de la Forêt, graded by colour and level of difficulty (distance and gradient):
🍃 Le charme (green): 5km and 68m D+.
🍃 The pine (green): 7km and 122m climb
🍃 Chestnut (blue): 14km and 194m D+.
🍃 Alder (blue): 17km and 214m D+.
🍃 The oak (red): 30km and 364m D+.
Let the signs guide you along the route as you run through all the nooks and crannies of the Double forest.
Want to try a triathlon?
What could be better than training at the departmental triathlon centre! Don’t necessarily want to take the plunge (although you can)? No problem, you can follow the two signposted trail routes starting from the Grand Étang de la Jemaye.
🍃 The green one: 5km
Blue: 10km
These two loops will take you past the Etang de la Jemaye through the forest of the Double!
And for a route with (almost) no positive ascent, walk around the pond. From the beach, to the forest and the paths, the Grand Étang will reveal all its facets!

Loops along the paths
Running in the Dordogne couldn’t be easier. And what better way to make the most of your outing in the great outdoors than to let yourself be guided!
Follow the yellow markings on the departmental PDIPR trails. You’ll find one starting from every commune, so there’s plenty to do and plenty of variety.
In the heart of the Double forest, across the Verteillac plains or surrounded by limestone cliffs, find the landscape that suits you best.
Ps: You don’t always have to run, these routes can also be done on horseback or by bike.

A bit of a challenge: take part in an official race
A bit of a challenge to perform or have a good time!
In winter, you don’t just curl up by the fire on your sofa, you take advantage of the great outdoors to run trails. And there are plenty of them!
To kick off the season, let’s head to Montagrier for a race that takes place every year at the beginning of November!
For fans of Santa Claus or those looking to prepare for the festive season, start with the Foulées du Père-Noël in Saint-Victor.
In Siorac de Ribérac, you can cross the forest (and the mud) on the legendary Trail de la Double and finish with a hot crêpe.
At the start of the year, we’ll also be taking to the heights of Grand Brassac and Paussac Saint-Vivien!
