Echourgnac Abbey
Echourgnac
Overlooking the village of Echourgnac, the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Bonne-Espérance has inspired peace and serenity since 1868. 21 Cistercian nuns still live there according to the rule of Saint-Benoît: ora et labora, prayer and work.
The fruit of this labour is the famous Trappe d’Echourgnac, a cow’s milk cheese available plain or matured in walnut wine, as well as a tomette made from ewe’s milk.
These cheeses are available throughout the year.
These cheeses are available all year round from the abbey shop, along with other products made by the sisters – jams, fruit jellies, honey, herbal teas – and a selection of monastic crafts.
A private place of silence and prayer, the monastery is not open to visitors. However, a museum and a video will give you an insight into the monastery’s daily life.
For groups of 10 or more, a guided tour with tasting is available by appointment, visites@lecellierdesmonasteres.com.
