A weekend away with friends, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, does a world of good. If you’re in the mood for fresh air, discovery and good food, the Périgord Vert is the perfect destination. Between walks in the heart of lush countryside, gourmet tastings and visits to picturesque villages, you’ll have everything you need to recharge your batteries!

The feast
Périgord

Travelling in the Périgord Vert is also a culinary adventure. As soon as you arrive, you’ll be immersed in the world of local flavours as you visit the Friday morning market in Ribérac.

A market of a thousand flavours

The stalls are overflowing with local produce. You might as well say that it’s hard to resist all these delicacies, including freshly-picked porcini mushrooms , home-made foies gras, duck breasts smoked to perfection… in short, everything! The black truffles from the Ribérac truffle market, on offer at gold prices, will give you a taste for refined dishes, and you won’t want to miss the goat’s cheeses.

After a complete tour of the market, you can take a well-deserved break on the terrace to enjoy a Périgord-style plate of foie gras, dried duck breast and walnut salad. All topped off with a glass of Saint-Aulaye cognac.

Convivial dinners in charming inns

In the evening, the local restaurants take over. You can try a small inn nestling in the heart of a village where the chef, passionate about local produce, will serve you a pan-fried cep mushroom and Sarlat potatoes.

Walks and activities
in the heart of nature

Of course, you won’t just be eating. You’ll need to get moving! Once again, the Périgord Vert is a paradise for nature lovers.

Forest walks and wildlife watching

You can treat yourself to a lovely hike in the Double forest. It’s a peaceful place to walk. The silence is disturbed only by birdsong and the rustle of leaves beneath your feet. You may even spot a stealthy roe deer, hidden between the trunks, and a heron hovering over the water.

Between calm and adrenalin in a canoe on the Dronne

For a dose of adventure, we invite you to take a canoe trip on the Dronne, a river that winds its way between cliffs and picturesque villages.

Tree climbing for thrills and spills

Try your hand at anaccrobranche course, where the zip lines and suspension bridges will put your agility to the test. The more adventurous climbed up to the highest courses, while others were content with the more accessible circuits, perfect for enjoying the view of the canopy.

The fascinating historical
heritage of the Périgord Vert

The Périgord Vert is a veritable open-air history book. So it’s inconceivable that you’d miss out on its architectural treasures.

Romanesque churches and perched castles

The Romanesque churches, with their massive domes and ancient frescoes, are impressive for their elegant sobriety. Thechurch of Saint-Pierre-de-Faye, with its intricately carved portal, will be one of your favourites. You can then visit the Château de Puyguilhem, a true jewel of the Renaissance.

Mills and wash-houses keep the villages alive

It’s impossible to talk about heritage without mentioning the mills and wash-houses that bear witness to the rural past of the Périgord Vert. Why not stop off at an old watermill, still in operation, where you can learn the secrets of milling in days gone by? Further on, a restored wash-house on the banks of a stream will plunge you into the daily life of yesteryear, when village women came to wash their clothes while exchanging the news of the day.

Meet the craftsmen

A veritable land of craftsmen, the Périgord Vert is home to a wealth of expertise that is passed on with passion.

The ancestral art of pottery

In a workshop tucked away in the heart of a small village, push open the door and watch a potter shape clay with fascinating dexterity. Some of us have even tried our hand at modelling a bowl or vase, an exercise that is much more difficult than it looks! There have been ‘works’ that have ended up as unidentified objects…

The timeless talent of painters and woodcarvers

Among the encounters you may have, you will cross paths with painters inspired by the landscapes of the Périgord, and witha woodcarver whose works seem to have come straight out of a medieval tale. They were some characters! Thanks to them, you’ll understand the soul of this land, shaped by skilful hands and passionate hearts.
