Village de Festalemps
Festalemps
Between Saint Aulaye and Ribérac, Festalemps lies at the transition between the agricultural plains of the Ribéracois and the forest of the Double. The redevelopment of the village centre has helped to enhance its heritage. The wash-houses were restored in 2010.
Its Romanesque church boasts gems such as its bell, its architecture and its ceiling paintings.
History has left its mark. Excavations in early 1900 revealed prehistoric remains, including a polissoire. These finds are on display at the Musée du Périgord in Périgueux.
Henri IV also came to the commune during the Battle of Coutras, as evidenced by the names of the hamlets: le Béarnais, la Reynie (Queen), la Haute and Basse écurie (Horses)… The house where he is said to have stayed at Le Béarnais can still be seen.
