Château de Clauzuroux
Champagne-et-fontaine
The 17th-century château is listed as a Historic Monument and features an H-shaped layout typical of the French style, with a multi-storey dwelling set between two large three-storey pavilions. It features Mansard-style tiled roofs with dormer windows, an 18th-century gateway with a curved pediment above a low arch, an architectural well, terraces and gardens leading to a bridge over the River Pude. The château estate comprises a number of buildings that bear witness to its utilitarian and pleasure uses: the outbuildings, the mill on the reach of the River Pude, which has preserved its mechanism, a manager’s house and a barn in its extension, and a circular dovecote with a conical roof. This is one of the finest examples of an 18th-century Périgord manor house.
